6th Tunel Street-Art festival, June 5th to 9th 2007

"Everyday without a laugh is a lost day" – Charlie Chaplin

In times of globalisation and the furthering of cultural and religious understanding, stereotypes and wars still remain. That is why it is especially important to support the intercultural exchange today; working and living together, and learning from each other. Art is international and knows no borders. It connects people from different physical and social environments in a enjoyable and intelligent way.

We support this way of thinking, and with the 6th Tunel Street-Art festival we would like to promote these themes of cooperation, respect, and togetherness. During this week we would give the opportunity to Turkish and foreign artists to present there diverse skills and to spend a harmonic time with the audience. Music, Circus, Street Art, Dancing, Paintings, Video Art, Fashion and all-encompassing performances will transform the streets of Beyoglu into a lovely world of magic and astonishment.

Street Art means the unexpected provocation and the interaction with the public, the citizens, and visitors, giving them an unforgettable moment of experience and a positive personal discovery. In order to assure the maximum amount of people, the public will be able to enjoy events which will be ‘open-air’ and without entrance fee.

Information stands and meeting points will give the opportunity for the public to get in touch with the artists in a private atmosphere, to create new connections, and further ideas.

Turkey with its strong hospitality and the force to progress into a responsible future creates the ideal in which to have such a street festival. The multi-cultural city of Istanbul, and especially the Tunel Beyoglu as a newly established cultural centre, is a city in which togetherness and creative processes are deeply rooted, a location with an ideal foundation. We wish that this coming festival will be a big enrichment for Istanbul and the international Art Scene.

We thank in advance the city council Kaymakamı, the Police Department of Istanbul, and the Authority of Istanbul.
